Mensagem:  According to a teacher I had (he spent a certain period in Massachusetts) ain't can replace the verb to be with all subjects like: I ain't , they ain't... And the American English Dictionary by Cambridge says it can replace: am is, is not, are not, has not or have not. Now I wonder the reason this form is not standardised as it's been used for a long time. Because of the constant use of the non-standard "vossa mercê" became "você" and it's a subject pronoun in Brazilian Portuguese. José
