Mensagem:  I identify pretty strongly with both, as I was raised mostly in the South, and my family are all Southerners - but I have lived most of my adult life in the North.

Push come to shove, I would choose the South as it is a friendlier culture - despite its problems.

I spent some time in Beaumont, Texas once - not to far from Houston. It was July, and so very hot.

Well, you can rent "Gone with the wind" and judge for yourself if you look like a house slave might have. The cinematography of the movie is some of the most stunning ever filmed. The issue of how blacks are portrayed in the movie was very controversial even when it was being made in 1939, and many black magazines and writers protested it quite strongly - so there was more discussion of the race issue at that time than one might think.

Let me know what you think of it.
