Mensagem:  The expression "takes the cake" is translated as "isto é o cumulo" as Márcio said. When someone does something that's really beyond belief then we say "that takes the cake" as show in the examples. Imagine a guy isn't invited to the wedding of Janet, his old girlfriend, but he shows up without an invitation. That's bad. Suppose he brings a girl along with him who also wasn't invited. The girl turns out to be the first wife of the guy Janet is marrying. People will gasp and whisper among themselves. At least one will say "Boy, that really takes the cake." which means that they have done something beyond belief, beyond expectations and which won't be forgotten for a long, long time.
