Marcio, In view of your post, I got sure that I was misunderstood. I think that all questions are interesting, but some questions are doomed. What do I mean? I believe in descriptive grammar rather than prescriptive one. I believe that there are some aspects of languages that do not have a clear, or grammatical, answer other than "because this is the way natives speak." There are other questions which the answer is so complex that the student/learner will get confused if the question is answered properly. Analyzing the question asked above I got to the conclusion that it was one of those. The answer was part "this is how natives speak" and part "a complex grammarian explanation". I do like and treasure linguistics in all aspects otherwise I would not be a linguist. Maria Valeska |
