"By the time you graduate from college you will have been through sixteen years of schooling".
"By the time you graduate from college you will have known many different professors".
There needs to be a reference back to earlier events from the future position to use this tense.
Your age at the future time that you are speaking from is only simple future, that is why - as you point out - people say:
"By the time I graduate from college I will be 22 years old".
