Mensagem:  HiThanks

for the comments

I respectfully beg to differ

I don’t know what definition you refer to because ‘will’ is a timeless modal auxiliary which is usually used in a future context due to the nature of predictions and intentions

1 - boys will be boys (is for example completely timeless)

2 - The plane will be landing about now (refers to around the present)

3 - The journey takes half an hour they left 40 mins ago they will have arrived (refers to the past)

English verb forms do not coincide with particular time periods (unlike latin, French, italian etc) – ‘will’ is often used to make predictions (therefore usually referring to future)

My comment did not indicate a relationship between will and past, the past came with the adverb or the perfect aspect (have + third form, in this case been)

I know it’s surprising at first but verb forms in English are timeless – temporal information comes from adverbs and context

Happy to discuss further as I realize this explanation, though watertight and free of exceptions, is not the orthodoxy.

ByeMichael
