Mensagem:  Caro Jose, "Bloodshot eyes" is that condition of having many fine red veins in your eyes - burst blood vessels - after crying a lot, or a night of hard drinking, etc. By the way, I'm happy to discuss the issue of tense in English here, I was just afraid others would find it boring. I think there is a distinct difference in this respect between English and the romance languages; as Mike pointed out, the Romance laguages have a structural verb form that makes that word future tense only - "comerei", for instance. There is no corellary for that in English; we have to use an auxilary verb: "will eat", or "shall eat", etc. I think it is in fact the same situation in past tense for our Latin verbs at least. "Defend", for instance. In Portugues there is "defendi", whereas in English we use "defended" for simple past, but that is really the past participle - "defindido", which should function more as an adjective or noun. For future we must use "will defend". We really don't have true verb forms for the conjugations. It is quite strange. I don't know how this came to be, but I plan to find it out.
