Eu acho que deve ser "ball makers" e não "ball markers." Take the baseball for instance. A perfectly round ball will not have only a minimum of resistance when thrown through the air. A ball made of two pieces of leather sewn together with stitching of gross thread will leave raised portions above the surface of the leather. These stitches give the pitcher something to hold onto and introduce torque when he releases the ball and the same stitches cause the air to make the ball tumble and twist as it goes forward. This makes the ball dip, curve, climb or slide according to the way it is released by the pitcher. The same applies to other balls. The longer the projectile moves through the air the greater there is a chance for it to be affected by dents, seams, etc in the outer surface. |
