Mensagem:  That's because the name of the tenses are different between English and Portuguese. In Portuguese, verbal conjugations like "dormirei" are called 'Futuro do Presente do Indicativo'. With so many names, I get puzzled! Yes, the simple future in Portuguese is just a contraction of the INFINITIVE VERB + 'HAVER' IN THE PRESENT. Example: Nós dormir hemos: Nós dormiremos Eles dormir hão: Eles dormirão Another interesting stuff is that that future form is little used in current Portuguese. The most common form is IR + INFINITIVE. Example: Eu vou dormir X Eu dormirei We can also say 'HAVER' IN THE PRESENT + DE + INFINITIVE. I think it was an alternative form to the first form and because of it, it wasn't contracted to the verb. Example: Um dia eu hei de dormir.
