Mensagem:  Yes, I agree that the majority of blacks recognize that speaking standard English is a key to success, simply because it is the majority language. I think many also resent it as an unpleasant reality.

What do you think about the fact that there are many whites who speak a native dialect structurally identical to AAVE, just with some differences in accent? Interestingly, most such whites do not recognize the dominance of standard English nor the need to speak it; they tend to view standard English as "citified" and "northern", whereas blacks view it as difiningly "white".

It would be salutory for these two groups to get together and understand that their dialects are etymologically and historically one and the same.
