Mensagem: | Miguel, I agree, and have always thought, that a society as wealthy as ours should not have utter destitution. Your fixation on "workers" is a bit outdated. The majority of serious poverty in this country resides with the chronically unemployed. The problem of institutional un-usefulness is what needs to be solved. Most anyone who is gainfully employed is not living in extreme poverty. The glaring exceptions to that are the immigrant workers in agriculture and garment industries, and something radical does need to happen there. But what is a revolutionary to do? Are you being careful not to eat food or wear clothes produced outside of RI? Talk is cheap, my friend - but the "revolution" of our age is to not participate in an economic system that you don't approve of. Try buying local. It ain't so easy. |
