Mensagem: | Hello once again, Do you know at what point in American history the phenomenon known as "Flapping Rule" lt;http://www.sk.com.br/sk-perg4.html#152gt; began to develop? Presumably, I'd say that at first the Pilgrims and other settlers spoke (pronounced) just like their fellow country-men back in England. Nonewithstanding,when did they begin to change the pronunciation of the alveolar stop /t/ into a /d/ in words such as Butter, Better, Matter, Automatic etc. Regards, -Miguel Vieira |
