Guys, remember that this is a song......it isn't supposed to be grammatically correct...it's supposed to have lyrics that go with the music.

Ever since you've been leaving me, I've been wanting to cry.

is really:

Ever since (you told me and I understand in my mind and heart)

you've been leaving me  (getting ready to go, packing the car, getting a divorce, selling the house, fighting over who keeps the cat and dog, who keeps the 8 track tapes of Dale playing the ukelele, etc)

I've been wanting to cry.  (self explanatory....has strong sentiments and wants to cry but doesn't actually cry)

Remember, song lyrics are not supposed to be used as models of correct English.
