I was shocked to learn that flowers were used in dandelion wine.  I was given a recipe for it back in 1963, and it said NOT to use the flowers, just the leaves.

Tom may be able to back me up on this, but I've heard that stock car racing was the result of moonshining.  Men needed fast cars to deliver the liquor, cars that couldn't be caught by the police.  Eventually it became a national sport; the cars, not the running from the police.

Moonshine is still made.  It's not something from the past.  "Pop", my ex-brother-in-law's father was a moonshiner.  Pop has been dead for years.  My ex-brother-in-law too.  Pop had the local sheriff on his payroll.  When federal officers would enter the county, the sheriff would advise Pop, and Pop would hide out.  The feds got wise and entered the county by crossing a river.  Pop spent a few years in prison, later becoming a well respected member of the community....a community in another state!
