"Every third day" is not a problem. The problem is describing an action that takes place for two days and then stops for a day, takes place for two days and then stops for a day, etc.
Granted, Dale/RS. Half of the original question from Tiago was how to say um dia sim e dois não, and nobody had brought up "every third day" yet.
I fully concur that to say dois dias sim e um não gets a little messier, and may end up sounding a little more like an explanation. "Give the dog his medication every evening, skipping every third day..."
P.S. Good thing I don't have a dog...! With my luck I would have to medicate the beast dois dias sim e tres não, except during the full Moon!
