They watered the loaves of bread down with the very best wine available in the house.
Must have been a very young wine as it was made that day.
By the way I don't think in those days they had labels on the bottles or earthen cans.
Labels may be interesting to read. The other day I read about a wine which was claimed to have , among other things, 'uma boca prolongada' .
Must be a nice wine to water sardines down with.
