As well pode também significar with an equal or similar result, como no exemplo:
Since I can't travel, I might stay here as well.

...  ...  ...  ...  ...  ...  ...  ...  ...  ...  ...  ...  ...  ...  ...  ...  ...  ...  ...  ...  ...  ...  ...  ...  ...  ...  ...  ...  ...  ...  ...  ... 

I have trouble accepting the sentence above as meaning "with an equal or similar result".  To my ears it means "Since I can't travel, I might stay here too."  (As is in, "I might stay here with you/them/he/she, etc."  Someone not being named in the sentence is also remaining.)

 

To have it mean "with an equal or similar result",  I'd rephrase as "Since I can't travel, I might/may as well stay here." In this sentence, the speaker is clearly stating that it makes no difference if he stays or leaves, and there is no implication that another person is also staying.
