Assunto:  Dar bronca

I like to scold, tell off, give a good talking to, lecture, and chew out.  I don't recall hearing "to give stick".  You can add to the list "to give someone a piece of your mind".  I prefer, however "to give someone hell, chew someone's butt/ass, read the riot act to someone, etc.:


She gave him a piece of her mind about his terribly manners.

I gave him hell for wearing his skates inside the house.

She chewed my butt/ass for coming home late.

He gave the kids a butt/ass chewing for making so much noise.

They read me the riot act for arriving so late to dinner.
