At our house this is how a BLT is made and served:
Sliced bacon is cooked so that there are about six slices per sandwich.
Nice red tomatoes are sliced into thin slices.
Fresh, washed lettuce is set aside.
The mayonnaise is ready.
Salt and pepper shakers are ready.
White bread slices are toasted in the toaster.
The hot toast is slathered with mayonnaise.
Ingredients are then placed on a slice of the toast: hot bacon slices, sliced tomatoes, leaf lettuce, salt and pepper.
The other piece of still warm toast is put onto the sandwich.
It is cut in half and served.
All of the sandwiches are not cooked before everyone sits down to eat. It's best to do it assembly line fashion and serve people as they come off the line. Everyone can sit around and discuss the World Champion White Sox, White House scandals, Planalto scandals, etc as they wait for their sandwich.
Of course potato chips are served with the BLTs. A Cuba Libre isn't a bad option either.
