Mensagem:  Caro Jose, First, at the risk of seeming pedantic, let me just point out that your examples are statements rather than questions. It would usually be phrased this way: "It is important to know English" When it is constructed this way you can now see that "knowing" is not the best verb form for this statement: "It is important, knowing English" is obscure. Essentially, one either knows something or doesn't know it, "to know" is a quite absolute verb - so the form "knowing", as an ongoing process, isn't very meaningful. It would be better to say: "The learning of English is important" wherein "learning" is an ongoing process.
