Andre Costa, I believe the American cultural and economic hegemony are the 2 top factors that motivate the vast majority to learn and master the English language. I believe that sub-consciously, those of us who want to learn English at all cost, figure that if we learn and master English, our chances of getting a better proportioned piece of the huge American "pie" would double if not quadruple. In fact, I think if America were to go broke right now, this great desire to learn English would decline dramatically. Perhaps the Japanese language would then become the preferred language as Japan has the second biggest economy in the world. What do you guys think? -Miguel Vieira |
