Where does Brasil get it's oil nowadays? Venezuela? Ecuador?
As the world passes peak oil production I wonder how that will affect Brazil. As the world's largest user of fossil fuel, the changes for the US will be very dramatic and onerous. Dominion and destruction of small oil-holding countries like Iraq, Ecuador and others in the Middle-East and Africa will get more extreme for a while, until the final collapse of the top powers.
Will Brasil take control of Venezuela by force, or does Brasil have trade to offer Venezuela in exchange for oil? Will Brasil and the US compete for South American oil reserves?
I think it's time for North Americans and South Americans to learn how to live without oil. That should be easier for Brasil, where people are not so spoiled. Many in the US are starting to realize that the time for greed is over, and that the world does not exist for our benefit.Modernity and consumption does not bring happiness - being ruled by greed is no better than being ruled by fazendeiros.
Just some food for thought, I hope y'all don't mind.
