Mensagem:  Yes, it seems you are right. The stats are interesting; Japan has about half the US population and half the production - hence about the same per capita production and incidentally the same per capita consumption. That means they have joined us in our very low per capita savings rate. However, Japan has 1/25 the US landmass, a huge disparity. Our two economies are similar right now: high tech value-added goods from imported materials, but of course Japan must import nearly everything, whereas the US can produce nearly all it's raw material if domestic labor cost drops and imports become expensive. In other words, the Japanese economy is highly fragile and totally dependant on current cirumstances (easy access to fossil fuel), and the US economy base is much more stable and could survive massive changes - IMO.
