What about the phrasal verb 'plunge in/into something'...
Like when you start doing something actively/enthusiastically:
"Two months before his exams, he suddenly plunged into his studies."
"She took a long, deep breath and plunged into her work."
The idea here is something like 'mergulhar na coisa...de cabe莽a'

Were you here in Brazil during the "Jovem Guarda" era??...Roberto Carlos and all???..that was in the 60s early 70s....
People really don't say that anymore....it's over...just smiled when I read your post...brought back good memories...:)
