A long time ago some people used incorrectly here in Brazil the word "history" just for real meanings and the word "story" for invented tales. In Portugue they used to say: História(real things) - Estória( tales) = History - Story. It was because English influence but now they stopped to use the word "estória". We have just the word "história" doens't matter if it is real or fiction.
How about the "a funny story" it isn't my text. I've copied from an academic book
I guess you aren't a Portuguese speaker, then if you have some doubts in that language you can ask me in my private e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org. I'm a Portuguese teacher and I've tried to teach a little of English too.
