A long time ago some people used incorrectly here in Brazil the word "history" just for real meanings and the word "story" for invented tales. In Portugue they used to say: HistÃ³ria(real things) - EstÃ³ria( tales) = History - Story. It was because English influence but now they stopped to use the word "estÃ³ria". We have just the word "histÃ³ria" doens't matter if it is real or fiction.
How about the "a funny story" it isn't my text. I've copied from an academic book
