I think that most of brazilians (not only the nouveau riche) think that to have a big car is a symbol of status. They work a lot and travel a little on vacation so the can afford to pay a leasing for a big car. Some usually spend the whole saturday to wash it up.
I, for instance, would never drive a car if I could choose.
