"Big kid" might work in those two examples, but...not quite.
Calling a man "a big kid" is not always demeaning. Depending on the context, it can mean simply that he has a big heart, he's fun loving, he has lots of the desireable qualities of a child, he wants to make people happy, etc. Depending on the context, it can also mean that he is irresponsible and childish.
In English your aunt might have called you "a young man". This is a very desireable and complimentary thing to call a boy. You would not have felt embarrassed but flattered.
