Not sure. "Don't call me Shirley" is an old joke. Let me set it up for you.
Jim-Why did you go to town?
Brad-I had to buy milk.
Jim-But surely you already had milk in the refrigerator.
Brad-Don't call me Shirley, and we had already used the milk on our corn flakes.
Did you understant? Brad thought that Jim was calling him "Shirley", but he was really saying "surely". Same pronunciation. Very different meaning.
