I assume it is a typographical error.  It appears to me to be a case of using a noun (girl) as an adjective to describe another noun (students).

Do we say "They are my girl friends" or "they are my girls friends?"  Are there three Girls Scouts at my door ot three Girl Scouts?  Do you have five beaches chairs on your patio or five beach chairs?
