Raquel, I've been to seven states in Brazil. RS is certainly a world apart. I'm amazed at how much RS has in common with Texas. For example: both (1) were republics at the same time, (2) have strong ties to the Spanish language, (3) have their own way of talking, (4) have their own dress and music, (5) see themselves as Texans or Gauchos first and Americans or Brazilians second, (6) are completely convinced that they are far superior to anyone else (I can hear the Gauchos and Texans reading this saying "But we are!"), (7) are crazy about horses and outdoor life, (8) very devoted football fans (futebol for the Gauchos, American football for the Texans), (9) love to barbecue...although the foods are quite different, (10) make wonderful friends, etc.
