A possum is a "gambá".  I haven't heard of a "brush-tail possum", but I'm from California/Arizona, and the US is a big country.

 

I haven't heard "outback" used outside of Australia to mean countryside.  In the USA "outback" is used more or less like "quintal".  Quite different!.
