Having a passion for the language is helpful, no doubt. But it's an unavoidable fact that if one has not had extensive contact with native-speakers, then one is not likely to be able to communicate effectively with them. No degree of passion will avoid that, I don't believe. I know that from my own experience. Even though I've had some consistent contact with native-speakers of Port, every time I have to re-adjust to the reality of the language as it is spoken. My mind is contantly applying it's flawed perception onto the reality. Irrisistibly, I want port to sound more like english. I can only imagine what it wou;ld be like had I no contact with native-speakers at all? Eu seria incompreensavel, totalmente. |
