How about "... the ... the N.Y. Hospital"?
I thought of a hospital as an entity named, "New York Hospital" rather than one named, "N.Y hospital." You might have stated,
"... at the ER of one of New York state's [NYC's] hospitals,"
in which case you'd probably get a lot of head nodding, a lot of handshakes and thumbs up from the other forum regulars and from most of the nodding forum lurkers. I hope.
