Mensagem:  Oi Caro Bruno, Well, the fact is I don't know much about verbs, I just use 'em. I'm sure there are experts here who can tell you what verbs really are, how they inter-act with all other parts of speech, and what they mean in particular forms. I still don't grasp the idea of analyzing the meaning of a verb in isolation: 'can' or 'do' by themselves. I know that some scholars consider many uses of the auxillary 'do' to be redundant and un-necessary: "How do you do?"; "Do please leave a message", etc. Very formal speech done did 'do' to death, I guess. 'She did her homework' doesn't seem to have a second verb to accompany the aux. Perhaps 'home-work' is a verb? Perhaps 'do' is not always an auxillary? She did what exactly to her homework? The verbal prarie, apparently smooth and flat, turns out to be riven with the ancient clefts of twisting rills and brooks.
