Mensagem:  Oi Celia, 'Ground-breaking' is a metaphor taken from agriculture. When the settlers would go to new areas, one of their first activities would be to start plowing the earth - also commonly called "breaking ground". Because the earth in that place had never been 'broken' before, the term began to take on the meaning of doing something entirely new, unprecedented.
