Mensagem:  ... and it is interesting to note that this kind of abbreviation (modal + have) is often spoken and even written by native speakers as "should (etc) + of" as in: I should (of / 've / have) gone to work but i slept in this is 'strictly-speaking' incorrect usage - but is perfectly understandable given the natural tendency in spoken English to ‘cut the corners’ - to reduce the length of words when speaking – a spoken sentence basically occurring as a long sound pattern often with no space at all separating individual words And so the 'mid-sentence spoken abbreviated form’ of “should have” comes out as: “shoulda” “Ushouldaseentherugbylastnite”
