Mensagem:  Oi Andre, Thanks, but I was aware of those rules - they were obvious to me the first time I read Spanish or Portuguese. I'm not speaking here of the adjectives and nouns. We know there are lots of those cognates. It's having more verbs to use that improves basic communication. Can you explain to me why such verb forms are not useful cognates? I can't 'imagine' why not. Eu nao posso imagine por causa nao. It doesn't require much imagination to see that 'imaginar' equals 'imagine', or that 'debater' is 'debate'. Almost as close are many others like 'começar/commence' and 'comunicar/communicate' etc, etc.
