Mensagem:  Oi Cibelle, What the Miguel has told you about Florida culture and populations applies to 'south Florida' and urban areas only. Rural florida is culturally the same as the rest of the rural southern USA. It is true that culture rotates on a white-black axis , but it is usually subtle and won't necessarily be obvious to you. As Miguel alluded to, you won't be considered 'white' or 'black' by either whites or blacks in the south. The special racial situation of the south only involves the native-born. Yes, people will assume you are speaking spanish if they hear your Portuguese - even here, where Brazilians have been living for 12 years or more, most people think they speak spanish. Miguel, do you remember saying that the term 'anglo' wasn't appropriate to be used to describe 'white' americans? When you lectured me about how I should refer to myself. It appears now you've changed your mind. It is a useful term, after all.
