It is not very different from UK or US english - - there are a couple of unique words and phrases - -  the accent differs from that in UK or US (as does South African or New Zealand) - - but essentially any differences are minor peripheral ones


keep in mind that the publishing industry has a vested interest in exagerating the so called differences between various regional versions because then they can publish and sell more books


you would probably find greater variation in the language within the US or UK based on geographical / educational and fiscal/financial differences than between either and Australia


As an Australian, sometimes you hear particular expressions promoted as being 'typically Australian' but I must admit I get the impression that this kind of theatre is artificial and does not reflect actual use
