Mensagem: | Conversely, dude, 'black' brazilians would not be considered black in the south of this country. In fact, they would be more likely to be viewed as black in the north. That is because of the peculiar relationship between native-born in the south. For instance - and I have witnessed this personally many times - Jamaicans, no matter how black their skin, are not considered by southern whites to be the same as native-born southern african-americans. Alternatively, african-americans in the south do not feel an automatic fraternity with jamaicans or other black-skinned residents; indeed there there is often friction between them. So it goes in our complicated society. |
