I love calabresa. The best things about Brazil are tangas, calabreza, and churrascos on Sunday where friends would fix extra calabreza for me to eat as I looked around for more tangas. You may think I'm joking, but I prefer calabreza to picanha. Take my chicken, take my ribs, take my steak... but don't touch my calabreza.
I've never seen anything in the USA even remotely resembling calabreza. On the other hand, I never found in Brazil anything that closely resembled what Americans simply call "Italian sausage". "Toscana" comes close, but it's not the same. And, believe me, I looked!
Vienna sausage is junk. I'll eat it, but only if I am starving to death and I can disguise the bland taste with a good mustard. It has nothing to do with calabreza except maybe being a meat product.
But that's my opinion.
