"Bitch" is probably the most common insult.  I've never heard, read, or even thought of calling someone a daughter of a bitch (until now!).  A bitch is, of course, a female dog and is commonly heard around dog trainers, breeders, etc.  In slang, a bitch can also mean a complaint or something very unpleasant/difficult.

The only bitch I have....(complaint)

He is always griping, complaining, and bitching.

Working on that car motor in the hot sun is going to be a real bitch... (something unpleasant, difficult)

The chemistry exam was a real bitch.
