Mensagem:  Thanks, Tom. I'm aware that there are very many accepted cognates for nouns and adjectives, etc. I was curious as to why verbs don't seem to be considered as useful cognates, even though there are some latin-base verbs that are quite commonly used in english, and have almost identical forms in Portuguese. Any ideas on why this is so? By the way, I don't live in Florida now. I'm in Massachusetts; my area happens to have a large Brazilian population.
