Assunto:  Play Uncle

Very interesting.  I don't recall hearing the expression.  I find it odd that the expression doesn't include the word aunt.  (to play uncle and aunt)  After all, a woman is included in the sentence. 


I'm wondering if the writer is merely saying that the couple have "adopted" a child and are being very generous and caring toward him/her.  We all have "nephews" and "nieces" who aren't related to us by blood.  In many cases they are the children of close friends and we feel great affection for the children.  The grand daughters of my best friend, for example, call me Uncle Dale. 


Could you tell us more of the context?  Thanks!
