Assunto:  You do it thoroughly and then soundly...
 
Mensagem:  (1) Have you caught yourself using the adverb soundly more than thoroughly?

(2) Can you identify or recall situations in which you'd automatically employ thoroughly rather than soundly and vice versa?

(3) Which one of the following alternatives would your soundly trained ear choose if you shook someone "something fierce"?

[a] "X shook Y soundly"
[b] "X shook Y thoroughly"
