Maria Valeska, you have to remember that I only associated with honest, hard working, upright citizens in Brazil.
I met a police officer from a city near Porto Alegre. I think he worked near Viamao. Anyway, he told me of a new pickup model that had arrived in Brazil a few years ago. Within a week (seven days, 1/52 of a year), "used parts" for the model were being advertised. Just where do "used parts" for a vehicle a week old come from??? He added that it was common for 80% of all the cars stolen during any certain night to be of the same make, model, and year. Clearly, cars were being stolen to fill orders.
My car was stolen but abandoned at the entrance to Sao Luiz, an area of Canela known to have chop shops. Why was it abandoned? The reason given by the police (the oilpan had been damaged, oil was lost, and the car engine had been driven without oil) turned out to be wrong. I was certainly luckier than most!
