How are you doing in the middle of the jungle?
(I think you putting the "in the middle of the jungle" you spice it up a bit; even turning the sentence ironic, depending on the sensibility of the person) so to soften the "roughness" you could say:
How are you doing there, in the middle of the jungle? or
How are you doing there, in the jungle?
Hmm, I was wondering; even so can sound a bit harsh, specially if you use it with a certain entonation or a sarcastic laughing.
