Jay Leno reminds me of Jo Soares more than Conan O'Brien does. The old Johnny Carson Show (I believe Leno replaced him) certainly had a lot of things in common with Jo Soares. The general format has been popular in the USA for decades.
Personality-wise, there are many differences. Soares was/is not hesitant to use very obscene language when interviewing English speaking guests. Somewhere he got the idea that the more dirty words he used, the better his English became. An American talk show host would never use such language, at least not if he wanted to keep his job. The language was, of course, "cleaned up" (censored) when translated into Portuguese. Although I enjoyed seeing his guests, I was never a big fan of his. I think he is over rated.
