Have you read "Brasil sob a suastica"? Interesting. The Germans weren't quite as organized as they could have been, but sometimes the information they gathered could alert U-boats to ships leaving Brazilian ports.
Curitiba has a nice World War II museum. I really enjoyed the displays of propaganda.
For a scary book, try "Coracoes sujos". It's about how the Japanese in Brazil refused to believe that Japan was losing (or had lost) the war. As late as 1950, about 25% believed that Japan had won the war. People were buying tickets on non-existing steamships to travel to non-existing Japanese colonies in the South Pacific where they had bought non-existing plantations and farms.
