I believe the cardinal of Los Angeles, California, was charged with "gangsterism" several years ago. I assume it is a federal law, not a State of California law. The charge was related to his attempts to conceal accusations of very improper behavior on the part of priests in the Los Angeles area. This would imply conspiracy, perjury, etc. Instead of reporting charges to the police or district attorney, he was transfering priests to different churches where they could hurt people again. I think he's still in office, so I assume the charges were dropped. He made a public apology. Sounds like justice in action to me.
